Category B test rules

Before taking the tests

• You need a valid learner permit, valid risk training and must be at least 18 to receive a category B licence.
• Both the theory test and driving test must be passed. Bring valid identification and arrive early.

Theory test format

• The test has 70 multiple-choice questions; five are unscored trial questions.
• The maximum score is 65 and at least 52 points are required to pass.
• The standard time is 50 minutes and starts when you start the test after the introduction.
• The result appears immediately, but individual incorrectly answered questions are not shown.

Knowledge areas

• Vehicle knowledge and manoeuvring; environment; road safety; traffic rules; and personal circumstances.

Languages and support

• The category B test is available in several languages. Support can include extra time, an oral test or an interpreter and must be approved before booking.
• Extra time for B is 75 minutes, an oral test is normally 90 minutes and an interpreted test is 100 minutes.

Validity and retakes

• A pass on or after 19 August 2026 is valid for one year; an earlier pass is valid for four months.
• Only one theory test per day is allowed for the same licence category.

Booking and cancellation

• Official tests are booked and paid through the Swedish Transport Administration. Booking bots are not allowed.
• Cancel at least 24 hours before the test for a refund. A paid fee follows a rescheduled booking.
• Applicants under 18 must pay no later than 25 hours before the test starts.

Current fees

• Category B theory test: SEK 420 daytime or SEK 520 evenings and weekends.
• Category B driving test: SEK 1,000 daytime or SEK 1,400 evenings and weekends.
• Test photo: SEK 120. Use of the authority’s car for a category B driving test: SEK 800.

Driving test

• The test starts with a safety check and includes urban and rural driving.
• A test in an automatic car results in restriction 78, allowing only automatic cars.
